A woman in Prince George’s County, Maryland, has been found guilty of attempted murder after shooting and seriously injuring her 13-year-old daughter during a domestic argument in 2024. Authorities announced that 33-year-old Talecka C. Brown was convicted on multiple felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
According to investigators, the shooting occurred in September 2024 inside the family’s Seat Pleasant home. The incident took place shortly after the child returned from school. The victim told police that she was walking down the stairs when her mother suddenly shot her, striking her in the neck. Despite the severity of the injury, the child survived and was able to provide critical information that aided the investigation.
Prosecutors described the case as one of the most disturbing acts of domestic violence they have encountered, emphasizing the shocking breach of parental responsibility. State’s Attorney Tara H. Jackson condemned the attack in a public statement, noting that it was “unimaginable that a mother would turn on her own child in such a violent way.” Jackson further underscored that a mother’s role is to “love, protect, and nurture her child, not cause them harm.”
With the conviction now secured, Brown faces the possibility of spending the rest of her life in prison. Under Maryland law, the attempted first-degree murder charge alone carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Brown’s official sentencing hearing has been scheduled for February 19, 2026, where a judge will determine the extent of her punishment.
The case continues to highlight concerns about severe family violence and the trauma inflicted on child victims. Community leaders and child advocates have expressed hope that the victim will receive long-term support and that the outcome of the case will reinforce the seriousness with which Maryland courts treat crimes against children.
