Man Taken Into Custody Following Firearm Discharge Incident in Frederick

A teen involved in a family dispute has been taken into custody after allegedly firing a gun inside a Frederick residence and fleeing the scene late Monday night.

According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), deputies were dispatched to the 5300 block of Henden Wood Lane at approximately 10:27 p.m. on October 27, 2025, for reports of a firearm discharge inside a home. When deputies arrived, they discovered that a heated argument between two adults had escalated when an 18-year-old family member intervened. During the confrontation, the teen—identified as Markell Anthony Thompson of Frederick—allegedly produced a handgun and fired a single shot into a stairwell. Thompson then escaped by climbing out a window and leaving the residence in a vehicle with two other individuals.

Inside the home, deputies recovered physical evidence consistent with a recent gunshot, including damage in the stairwell and a handgun found in Thompson’s bedroom. A description of the suspect’s vehicle was immediately broadcast to responding units. Shortly afterward, deputies located the vehicle on Viceroy Court in the Ballenger Creek area and initiated a traffic stop. Thompson was found seated in the back seat and was arrested without incident.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a bag belonging to Thompson containing a loaded rifle and a loaded handgun, the latter later confirmed to have been stolen from San Bernardino County, California. Deputies also recovered a spent .40 caliber casing from Thompson’s pants pocket, further linking him to the firearm discharge reported at the residence.

Thompson was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with multiple firearms-related offenses, including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a stolen firearm.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation remains active, and authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information to contact Deputy Ritchey at 301-600-1046.
