CAMP SPRINGS, Md. — A Capitol Heights resident has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for his role in a botched robbery that ended with two men dead in 2023. Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara Jackson announced Tuesday that 24-year-old Christopher Jamar Jenkins received the lengthy sentence following his conviction.
In May, Jenkins was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 23-year-old Xavier Matthews and 26-year-old Karon Moore. He was also convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, using a firearm in a violent crime, and possessing a handgun despite being prohibited from doing so.
Police say the incident happened at a motel in the 5100 block of Allentown Road just after 7 a.m. on June 28, 2023. Officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds—one was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other later died at a nearby hospital.
The following day, authorities arrested two suspects, including the woman who had rented the motel room.
Court records reveal more details:
-
Investigators linked 24-year-old Keymonte Day, of Washington, D.C., and Jenkins to the crime.
-
Motel staff confirmed that Day booked the room where Matthews and Moore were killed.
-
A search of the room uncovered guns, phones, clothing, blood, and other evidence.
-
Surveillance footage showed Matthews arriving with Day in his black Porsche SUV around 5 a.m. After checking in, Day appeared to place the key card for the room behind the tire of Matthews’s vehicle.
Around 6:15 a.m., a blue Infiniti arrived at the motel. A man retrieved the hidden key card, and by 6:55 a.m., three masked suspects armed with guns entered the room using it.
Shortly afterward, surveillance showed Day leaving the room and getting into the Infiniti. Two of the armed suspects soon followed, and the SUV left the scene.
