The D.C. region is starting the workweek with scattered thunderstorms and patchy fog. Monday brought the potential for severe weather, including lightning, gusty winds up to 60 mph, and quarter-sized hail. The National Weather Service issued multiple thunderstorm warnings across parts of Maryland and Virginia starting around 5:45 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect across much of the region until midnight, according to 7News First Alert Meteorologist Eileen Whelan. She warned that any developing storms could turn severe, bringing strong winds and hail.
Temperatures reached the low to mid-70s Monday, with high humidity. Rain and storms are expected to taper off late in the evening, followed by overnight lows in the low 60s and areas of fog.
Tuesday will see some lingering showers and storms, though conditions will brighten by afternoon. Humidity is forecast to drop slightly, with highs again in the 70s. Wednesday looks to bring drier and sunnier weather, with temperatures peaking in the mid-70s.
