Bethesda Man Arrested After Armed Kidnapping in Montgomery County

Frederick, Md. (DG) – A Bethesda man is in custody following a dramatic kidnapping incident that unfolded Friday afternoon in Montgomery County.

Police say 31-year-old Robert Deeter allegedly abducted a woman at gunpoint around 2:30 p.m. near the 10300 block of Old Georgetown Road. Officers soon located him driving a red Toyota RAV4 with the victim still inside.

The woman escaped near Rockledge Drive and I-270 after Deeter briefly slowed the vehicle. She later told officers that she knew Deeter and confirmed that she had been forcibly taken.

Authorities tracked Deeter to Beech Avenue, where he barricaded himself inside the vehicle. Following a period of negotiations, he eventually surrendered without incident. A firearm was found in the car.

Deeter now faces several charges, including kidnapping, first-degree assault, and multiple handgun offenses. He is currently being held without bond.
