Fatal Collision on BW Parkway Sends Five to Hospital, Southbound Lanes Reopen

Overnight Crash on BW Parkway Leaves One Minor Dead, Five Injured

A late-night crash on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway early Friday resulted in the death of one young person and injuries to five others, according to U.S. Park Police. The collision shut down all southbound lanes for nearly seven hours.

The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. near Route 197, prompting the closure of the southbound side of the parkway between Maryland Route 197 and Powder Mill Road. The lanes reopened just before 9:30 a.m., according to WTOP Traffic.

The crash involved two vehicles. Police confirmed that one minor was pronounced dead at the scene, while another suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. Two additional minors and two adults were also hospitalized with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities have not released the ages of those involved or the cause of the crash. While southbound traffic has resumed, some delays remain near the Beltway and along Route 197 where vehicles had been detoured. Northbound lanes stayed open throughout the morning, although some slowdowns occurred due to onlookers.
