Deadly Seat Pleasant Police Chase Caught on Camera, Woman Killed and Child Hurt

Fatal Police Chase Ends in Crash That Killed Woman, Injured Child

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Police have released dashboard and body camera footage from a fatal police chase in March that resulted in the death of a woman and left a child and another adult hospitalized.

The incident began on the evening of March 21, when a Seat Pleasant Police officer attempted to stop a Genesis sedan around 7:30 p.m. on the 6300 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway. The vehicle initially pulled over, but as shown in the first segment of the dashcam footage, it sped off while the officer returned briefly to his patrol car. A lookout alert was then issued to neighboring law enforcement agencies.

Later, Prince George’s County Police located the vehicle at a gas station on the 6700 block of the same road. When officers tried to conduct another stop, the driver fled once more.

Officers pursued the car for a short distance before it crashed into a Nissan SUV that was not involved in the chase. The SUV was driven by 34-year-old Patricia Riddick, who had a child passenger with her. In the bodycam footage, officers are seen breaking into the SUV to reach Riddick and the child, who was crying in the back seat. Riddick was taken to a hospital where she later died. The child suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway and Belle Haven Drive. The driver of the Genesis was critically injured and hospitalized. No officers were hurt during the incident.

The full video is available for viewing, but discretion is advised.
