The D.C. region is preparing for another round of snowfall, with forecasters predicting several inches of fresh accumulation by Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday, forecasting between 4 and 8 inches of snow across the area. The heaviest snowfall is expected between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with accumulation rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Hazardous Travel Conditions Expected
Officials are urging residents to exercise caution, as road conditions could become hazardous and significantly impact Tuesday evening’s commute. According to 7News First Alert Senior Meteorologist Brian van de Graaff, snowfall will develop from southwest to northeast, with higher accumulations likely in southern areas.
Temperatures will start above freezing Tuesday morning before dropping into the low 30s and upper 20s later in the day. However, the morning commute is expected to remain dry.
Preparations Underway
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has declared a state of emergency, advising residents to prepare for potential impacts on roads and infrastructure.
In the District, Mayor Muriel Bowser has activated the District Snow Team, which includes over 200 snowplows deployed to treat major roads and neighborhood streets. Crews are set to begin pretreating roads by 8 p.m. Monday.

- Maryland: Prince George’s County Public Schools and Riverdale Baptist School will close early Tuesday.
