Woman Charged with Allegedly Setting Fire to Ex-Boyfriend’s Home

Maryland Woman Faces Up to 30 Years for Allegedly Setting Ex-Boyfriend’s Home on Fire

FROSTBURG, Md. — A Maryland woman could face up to 30 years in prison after allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s home in October 2024.

Heather Lynn Hutcheson, 43, was arrested Wednesday morning following an investigation into the arson. She has been charged with first-degree arson and is being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center. If convicted, she could also face a fine of up to $50,000.

On October 13, 2024, just after 1 p.m., the Shaft Fire Department and other responding units arrived at a home on Upper Georges Creek Road in Frostburg after a passerby reported seeing smoke. Firefighters were able to control the blaze within 10 minutes.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal launched an investigation and determined the fire was intentionally set, as multiple areas of the home had been ignited.

Detectives later discovered that Hutcheson had been on the property before the fire started. She was identified as a suspect and arrested several months later.

It remains unclear whether her ex-boyfriend was inside the home at the time of the fire. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of the damage or provided details on Hutcheson’s sentencing timeline.
