Howard County Police Bodycam Footage Captures Shootout and Mother-Child Rescue

Police bodycam footage from a November shooting in Howard County, Maryland, has been released, providing new details about the incident in which officers rescued a mother and child before fatally shooting a man investigators say was armed with multiple firearms.

According to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, Howard County officers Joseph Debronzo and Christopher Weir, both with over a decade of experience, responded to a domestic disturbance on Nov. 30 around 3 p.m.

Investigators say 29-year-old Tyree Winslow, of College Park, Maryland, fired several shotgun rounds into the front door of a Laurel townhome before breaking in through a window.

The footage shows Officer Debronzo approaching the home on American Pharaoh Lane, observing shattered glass and shell casings, and attempting to kick down the door while armed with a rifle. He hears a woman screaming upstairs.

The woman had climbed out of a second-floor window onto an awning with her child. Debronzo instructs her to stay put, saying, “Lay down, ma’am. Stay there.”

Debronzo then joins Weir behind a truck across the street as Winslow appears in the second-story window. Officers repeatedly command Winslow to comply before an exchange of gunfire ensues. The woman screams as shots are fired.

Weir crosses the street while Debronzo keeps his rifle trained on the window. The mother throws her child down to Weir, who catches him, and then climbs down to safety.

The Howard County Tactical Team later entered the home around 5:40 p.m. after failing to establish contact with Winslow. They found him deceased inside from gunshot wounds. Several firearms and a knife were recovered from the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident.
