A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to assault three people with a machete near a shopping center in Montgomery County, Maryland, on Sunday, police reported.
Maikol Darinson Vicente Gomez, 24, faces multiple charges, including three counts of first- and second-degree assault, two counts of vandalism, and resisting arrest, according to a news release.
Police responded to reports of a man armed with a machete near Broadbirch Drive and Tech Road shortly after 5:40 p.m.
When officers arrived, Gomez reportedly fled through the shopping center parking lot, striking parked cars with the machete. He eventually tripped and fell, dropping the weapon, at which point officers took him into custody.
Three alleged victims told police that Gomez attempted to attack them with the machete near the shopping center without any clear motive. All three managed to escape unharmed.
Gomez is currently being held without bond at the Central Processing Unit in the Montgomery County Detention Center.
