BALTIMORE — A shooting followed by a fiery car crash on Tuesday night in a suburban area north of Baltimore resulted in one fatality and nine injuries, according to police.

Gunfire was reported throughout a neighborhood near the site where the car ultimately crashed outside a funeral home that appeared to be closed, Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough explained during a news conference.

While few details were provided about the shooting, McCullough stated that investigators believe the incident was both targeted and isolated.

“It seems the individuals involved in this case were acquainted, and the incident was deliberate and targeted,” he reiterated.

Authorities did not disclose the conditions of the nine hospitalized victims and noted it’s unclear whether all of them sustained gunshot wounds.

Some gunfire struck the funeral home’s facade, and police received additional reports of gunshots in other locations, officials reported. McCullough described the events as “an ongoing, rolling type of gun situation leading up to the funeral home.” Upon responding to reports of gunfire, officers discovered the flaming car overturned.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski assured that his office will allocate the necessary resources for police and fire investigators to resolve the case.

“This incident is shocking, especially for those of us in Baltimore County,” he stated. “Such occurrences are unprecedented here and are deeply disturbing.
