3 Arrested as Task Force Cracks Down on Car Rallies Across Maryland

Maryland authorities have arrested three people as part of a statewide crackdown on illegal car rallies, led by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force (MCRTF).

According to officials, the task force coordinated efforts to address a planned large-scale illegal car rally on New Year’s Eve, expected to attract participants from Maryland and neighboring states.

Between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Wednesday, the task force dismantled four illegal exhibition driving events and prevented five others from forming across Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties, as well as Baltimore City, a news release stated.

All three arrests stemmed from an event shut down at Konterra Drive and Schweitzer Lane in Laurel shortly after 12:30 a.m.

Adin Carr, 20, of Rockville, was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a loaded handgun in a vehicle, and other firearm-related offenses. Authorities noted Carr also had multiple outstanding warrants.

A 16-year-old suspect faces charges of possessing a stolen firearm and additional firearm-related offenses.

The task force reported that state troopers attempted to stop a pedestrian who fled in a vehicle. The car was later found in the 13600 block of Baltimore Avenue in Beltsville.

The driver, Aberon Alem, 23, of Bowie, was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding police, along with other traffic violations.

This follows an earlier crackdown in July 2024, when six individuals were arrested and charged for participating in large-scale illegal car rallies in Prince George’s County, WTOP previously reported.

The Maryland Car Rally Task Force includes Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority police, and officers from Baltimore City, as well as Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties.
