OXON HILL, Md. — A 19-year-old student was detained Monday morning after authorities say he attempted to enter Potomac High School with two loaded firearms.
Around 10:45 a.m., Prince George’s County Schools security personnel alerted the Prince George’s County Police Department after discovering the weapons during a routine security check. The guns were detected by a metal detector as the student entered the school, and officers later found both firearms concealed in his clothing.
The student, identified as Jamel Curtis, 19, of Oxon Hill, is a junior at Potomac High School. He was taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including possession of a handgun and carrying a dangerous weapon on school property.
