13-year-old protects mother, knocks stepfather unconscious during alleged attack

An Alabama man was taken into custody after authorities say he attempted to strangle his wife during a domestic dispute, only to be stopped by his 13-year-old stepson, who reportedly knocked him unconscious while defending his mother. The incident, which occurred in Foley, Alabama, has drawn attention to issues surrounding domestic violence, family safety, and the role of bystanders in preventing harm.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Daniel Hernandez-Lopez was arrested and charged with domestic violence by strangulation following the altercation. Deputies responded to a residence in Foley at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of a violent dispute inside the home. Authorities said the situation escalated quickly, with Hernandez-Lopez allegedly placing his hands around his wife’s neck during an argument.

Investigators reported that the woman’s teenage son witnessed the alleged assault and intervened to protect his mother. According to local reports, the 13-year-old confronted Hernandez-Lopez in an attempt to stop the attack. Deputies stated that Hernandez-Lopez then allegedly turned his attention toward the teenager and lunged at him. During the confrontation, he reportedly attempted to strike the teen with a bicycle.

In response, the teenager defended himself and his mother. Authorities say the 13-year-old struck Hernandez-Lopez several times in the face, ultimately knocking the man unconscious before law enforcement officers arrived at the scene. Deputies later confirmed that Hernandez-Lopez was already unconscious when they reached the residence.

Officials also noted that Hernandez-Lopez appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident and may have been under the influence of narcotics. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the altercation as part of the ongoing domestic violence investigation.

Further reports indicate that Hernandez-Lopez is not a United States citizen. However, authorities have not released additional details regarding his immigration status or whether it will play a role in the legal proceedings.

Following his arrest, Hernandez-Lopez was transported to the Baldwin County Jail, where he was booked on Tuesday on the domestic violence strangulation charge. As of the latest reports, it remains unclear whether he has secured legal representation to respond to the allegations against him.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional updates regarding the case. Meanwhile, media outlets, including Fox News Digital, have reached out to local authorities for further information as the investigation continues.
